The quality objectives set by ‘High Quality Care for All’ will only be met by enhancing and developing our ability to adopt and share innovation. This is why Lord Darzi’s report promised extra funds and support for innovation throughout the NHS, to augment the wealth of exciting projects which are already underway. Similarly, the only way we are going to meet the challenges of a strained economy is through innovation and by improving quality. Innovation will be driven regionally by Strategic Health Authorities, who now have a legal duty to promote and reward innovation. NHS North West’s vision is to create a culture where innovation is expected, supported and celebrated.  A new regional infrastructure will enable the formation of strong partnerships between the NHS, industry, NGO’s and academia, helping to develop solutions, pilots and evaluate new technology. Service innovation will also be strongly supported in this new structure.
