Six innovative clinical technologies are to be the focus of a new NHS Information Centre study.
Plans made to measure the uptake of innovative technologies.

We have been asked to look at developing metrics to measure uptake across the NHS of six technologies, including insulin pumps for diabetics, spinal cord stimulation to help relieve chronic pain, and intensity modulated radiotherapy – a more precise radiation treatment for cancer patients. The technologies have been chosen for being representative across the med-tech industry.

Our scoping report, carried out on behalf of the Department of Health and Office of Life Sciences, will propose how information on the adoption of these technologies can be collected and published in the longer term.

The principles will then be applied routinely to new technologies being introduced into the NHS; making the process of introduction shorter, simpler and more equitable.
