NHS Innovations East Midlands is the technology transfer arm of the NHS


In 2003, the Department of Health published a framework and guidance document that required all trusts to manage their innovations and their associated Intellectual Property (IP), it also requires IP to be identified and managed.

The NHS National Innovation Centre (NIC), which is part of The NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement, co-ordinates the activities of the NHS hubs. The Centre also acts as an interface between the healthcare industry and the NHS. The NIC offers various secure and confidential online services to public sector organisations designed to help them assess, manage and develop their precommercial innovations that could be beneficial to the NHS.
