Collaboration  - Research – Innovation

The NHS is the largest UKcustomer of medicines and technologies produced by the life science industry, which also provides an excellent environment for clinical trials andinvestigations. Measures to ensure that the NHSleads the way in the uptake of ground-breaking and cost-effective medicines andtreatments are being put in place and industry, academia and the third sectorcan play a crucial role in helping the NHS to meet its quality, innovation, productivity and prevention objectives. The Board of every NHSorganisation is now expected to engage with staff, industry and other partnerson how innovation can be best harnessed to improve quality and reduce costs atall levels of the system. The government has alsoreinforced the need for greater emphasis on research in the NHS operatingframework.A sea change is underway acrossthe NHS and life sciences sector. When independent organisations forge mutuallybeneficial, mutually dependent relations, inevitably a stronger master mindgroup is born as a result. When collaborators havetransparent and open dialogue this leads to trusting relations. When leaders work jointly in thismanner all elements of QIPP can be achieved including – better quality –innovative practices – more productive – preventing waste.
